Why Choose Us

Our Setting:

Stour Road Day Nursery is set in a purpose-built nursery with an upstairs, downstairs and a spacious, purpose built garden. Upstairs consists of a bright, fresh playroom for the 0-2 year old’s, a messy room and a sleep room.

Downstairs are the 2-5 year old rooms, which consist of a large, open playroom, a messy room and a toilet area. The open space means staff can plan a variety of activities, keeping learning fun and innovative. The outdoor space includes grassed areas, paved areas and a sheltered sandpit where your child can explore all the areas of the EYFS.

Both upstairs and downstairs rooms contain different zones which relate to each area of the EYFS, such as a cozy corner, role play area etc. Our goal is to make your child feel safe and happy in their surroundings.

Settling In:

We want your child to settle into their new surroundings as best they can so we offer two free, hour long ‘settling sessions’. Ideally this will include one with a parent and one on their own, however this will be adapted to the child and additional settling sessions can be added.

Children moving from upstairs to downstairs will be given ‘settling sessions’ to gently introduce them to a new routine. Keyworkers will liase with each other to make their transition between rooms as smooth as possible. The ages stated above are a guideline and, as every child is different, this may not suit them so some children may move up earlier/later. Many transitions may take place in summer months when our school leavers transition to big school!

Before the settling sessions begin, parents will need to return all forms so we have all the information necessary about your child e.g. allergies etc. At Stour Road Day Nursery we understand the importance of consistency and where possible try to coincide your child’s routine with that of home. For example if your child has a sleep during the day we will provide that at the same time at nursery etc. We also encourage parents to bring any comforters such as blankets, teddies, muslins etc. for their sessions so we can make your child as comfortable as possible.

Key Worker System:

When your child settles in, they will be given a key worker. Their key worker will welcome them in when they arrive, and strive to make them feel calm, safe and happy during their time here. Your child’s key worker will answer any questions you have and work together with you to ensure your child has the best time possible with us. They will be observing your child, and helping them towards their next steps and learning goals. This provides your child a safe anchor within the setting.

We open at 8.00am daily, and we ask that, should your child be attending the morning session or all day session that they are dropped off by 9.15 at the latest. This is because after that time the children’s daily routine begins and the key worker will not be able to greet you and your child properly as they will be engrossed in the children’s structured activities.

Feedback:

Children who attend upstairs will be given a daily diary which will be written by their keyworker so their parent/guardian knows all about their day.

When the children move downstairs, we encourage them to tell their parents/guardians about their day and what their favourite part was! However, their keyworker or a member of the team will always be available at the beginning/end of session to chat. Parents are asked to come in for a parent meeting every other term, however if parents have any concerns and would like to arrange an extra one or come in to chat they are more than welcome.
